Prys Rim Kernewek Cornish Rhyme Time
In Spring 2024, leading up to Speak Cornish week, Little Bird Music worked with the Cornish Language office and all Cornish Libraries to develop a range of songs and rhymes incorporating the Cornish language for all to use and enjoy. Alongside a training and support programme for library staff, we produced supporting resources (a foldable book and webpage) for use by the libraries and families and parents at home. The project included a training programme working with the staff in 29 libraries.
We have very much enjoyed incorporating the Cornish Language it has really enriched our Rhyme-time sessions. We have had amazingly positive feedback from Parents, Grandparents and Carers who have loved the ‘Cornish’ feel, we are continuing to include Cornish words and phrases we have had a further supply of booklets allowing us to distribute to every parent to take home. Our Rhyme Time Volunteers are loving it too as they are of Welsh descent, the language is very similar and easy for them to pick up but the use of the website and booklets have helped where there have been gaps for pronunciation and help with understanding new songs we haven’t explored before and melodies.
